Manx Sail Racer

Two young IOMYC dinghy sailors (and Manx Youth Sailing Squad members) James and Greg Kelly had their first taste of European sailing at the RS Europeans at Lake Garda from 2nd - 6th august. They were part of a small GBR squad competing against strong national squads from Italy, Denmark and Sweden as well as individuals.

Because of Italian law the under 12’s had to sail seperately and Greg(11) had a good series to take 3rd place, whilst James (12) , also sailing a Tera Sport, finished 6th up against an exceptionally strong and much older team of swedish sailors.

It was very different sailing there from Port St Mary with wind, currents, delays on the start line and Italian officials to deal with, but a great learning experience, just what the Manx junior squad is all about.
