IOMYC Dinghy Action Through June
June was a busy month in the IOMYC calendar with all dinghy races and most training sessions sailed successfully. The Hamblin Round Mann race has already been reported and the IOM Youth Championship is covered separately.
The club hosted a RIB raid from Northern Ireland the same weekend as the Youth Championship, welcoming 50 visiting crews for a meal Saturday evening and a BBQ Sunday lunchtime. A great time was enjoyed by all.
The results of the two June series’ dinghy racing trophies (top six only): Everard Williams Cup: 1st Mick Kneale and crew (Nat18), 2nd James Walker (Blaze), 3rd James Kelly (RS Tera), 4th Pete Barlow and crew (Nat.18), 5th Russell & June Collister (RS200), 6th Dave Batchelor (RS200). The Club Cup: 1st Mike Pridham (Laser), 2nd Ben Swindlehurst (Radial), 3rd Ali Hinds (Radial), 4th James Kelly (RS Tera), 5th Simon Kelly (Laser), 6th Roger & Helen Cave (Laser Stratos). Through June, a fleet of 20 different boats sailed the 16 races. Many thanks to PJ Hinds for his brilliant work as Race Officer, setting perfect courses and running the races like clockwork.
The IOM heat for the Honda RIB Youth Challenge was won by Alex Sharpe (13-16 age group) and Lucy Gregg (8-11 age group). They will be representing the island at the Southampton Boat Show RIB event in September.
Dinghy racing continues Friday evenings to the end of August. Please check out the schedule at www.iomyc.com for the weekend events. Next big event at PSM is the IOMYC Regatta 18th and 19th July, racing Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, the cruisers doing a pursuit race each day and the dinghies a series of six races, three each session. Many thanks to the club social committee members, who will be providing a regatta tea on Saturday and a BBQ on Sunday after racing.
The Saturday morning also coincides with a visit from the Castletown fleet, which is having a race to PSM – some boats may even join in the regatta later on. All are welcome.
