Enjoyable Evening at the Queenie Festival Dinghy Race

The IOM Queenie festival dinghy race proved a successful event even though the wind forgot to make an appearance. The racing, organised and promoted by 7th Wave and Manx Sail Racer, took place over a small windward, leeward course in a very light and shifty easterly breeze. The half hour beat against the tide was followed by a positive sleigh ride back down the tide to the finish, just one race and one lap but it was nice to get sailing involved in the Queenie Festival.
Junior and member of the Manx Youth Squad James Kelly took the overall honours as well as the top Junior prize. James Walker took second spot in his Blaze from Simon Pressly in his Laser (despite a momentary cool off in the drink!).
Thanks to all competitors who helped support the event, despite the conditions it was great to see the 12 boats racing, also to the Isle of Man Yacht Club who allowed us the use of there yellow peril and racing equipment and also to The Queenie Festival for getting some sailing involved in the event (the Queenies and beer at the presentation were also welcome!).
Some excellent photos of the event are available here thanks to MSR co-founder and web developer Nick Thornley, who has stepped in as MSR Photographer while Dave Kneale is away getting paid for his pictures!
Keep an eye on MSR for any further MSR and 7th Wave organised events

Well done on organising this extra event. It was a pity that you didn’t have the wind to go with the sun but there was a good atmosphere and i am delighted that the policy of IOMYC training section and the manx Youth Squad is bearing fruit with more young competitors, particularly after the messages in ‘Banter’ earlier in the year.
