Great Conditions at the IOMYC Autumn Series
Report thanks to Pete Hinds
After years of sailing with unreliable winds at the reservoir in the winter, we are giving it a go at Port St Mary this year.
The eight hearty crews who took to the water last Sunday were rewarded with near perfect sailing conditions – sunshine and a steady breeze. The race officer set a ‘P’ Course and the Collisters won the first race in a borrowed RS400 (so there’s nothing wrong with the boat, Mike!). Second went to the Dean machine sailing their RS200, and third to Dowling and Holt in the Wayfarer.
The Deans won the second race, followed by Dowling and Holt in the Wayfarer. Third was Ben Swindlehurst in the Laser Radial, who just pipped Ali Hinds, who was also sailing a Radial. The Scorpion of the Cope brothers improved to 5th, after learning to leave the spinnaker in its shoot after some interesting and original shenanigans with it in the first race! The 505 sailed by Coleman and Edwards also had some fun with a disobedient spinnaker, and young Parkes sailed well in the Pico.
The series will continue at 11am next Sunday, weather permitting, and it would be great to see a few more people joining in!
