If there was a one-day long race series at Port Erin as part of PE regatta (usually July 17th ish) would anyone show up?

It would be a case of launching from the beach, racing would be in the bay as it is too deep to get marks to stick outside.  Wind is likely to be similar to Injebreck, but the same for everyone, changing facilities also similar to Injebreck!  The only saving grace could be a barbeque at the Cosy Nook afterwards.....

HW on Sat.17th July 2010 is 1635hrs making the haul back up the beach quite short. So at least you won't have a heart-attack before you get to the barbie.

And why are there 16 little slap-heads above this message box? I didn't release any passport photos.

Racing in Port Erin again would be good. Can you still get bottles of red seal and whose car boot would we use ?
on another slightly related matter are we likely to race at PSM on Friday evenings again next year?

one more discussion point, is there any mileage in shifting the Dinghy Champs weekend to an alternative date in an effort to attract more entries, the end of August date seems to clash with holidays for a lot of people? i know it was  tried 11 years ago but maybe it is worth a try again?

We had the MYA meeting last night when next year's regatta dates were established as best we could in the absence of representation from half the clubs (you can only plead so often!). The Dinghy Champs was scheduled for Peel but they've decided they can't really do this event any more as they're not geared up for hordes of dinghies (although they will manage their own regatta OK). So MSCC has been asked if they will do the D.Champs on the usual last weekend of August and happily the tides are ideal. So, sorry I missed your post Roundy, the question of shifting weekend was not therefore broached. However, I suspect we would find, that no matter what date is chosen, there will always be people away either sailing or on holiday.
Most weekend tides are just awkward for  Ramsey in 2010 and the dates we've suggested for their own regatta and the champs really are the only two feasible weekends there all summer (after Easter).
Once all six clubs come back to us with their agreement and/or suggestions, we'll publish the regatta schedule here.
At IOMYC we've already decided to leave the club dinghy racing as is - Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. No-one has asked for this to be reviewed. The 2010 programme will be finalised when the club regattas are agreed.
That Red Seal was always over-rated - anyway, you'll be allowed in the Bay Hotel now - plenty of choice in there, no need for the gottlageer from the boot.

Thanks for the update.

Lets hope for a good turnout, hopefully more than 1 Ramsey boat at the Champs next year!

Jen, not sure you should have likened a PE Regetta to Injebreck cos IoMYC won't turn up Wink

We already know what Port Erin is like - Jen's reminder is no big news. There will be some tempted anyway, don't worry - and we'll bring our own kippers to the BBQ, if nothing else.
With my MYA hat on - is this date fixed? We could add it to the list perhaps. Saturday in PE and the usual Sunday at PSM - that'll work. Nothing else scheduled mid-July at the moment. And is there to be repeat of the Queenie Fest. mid-week race at PSM? Say Tue.29 or Wed.30 June?

I think Jen said it won't be feasible with so many other activities around the beach at the same time. A load of boats, trailers and extra cars would be kind of unwelcome to the organisers. I don't think "regatta" means the same to us and them!
There's obviously no Queenie Festival race either.
